The Kathakali Dancer

He paints his face

wears jewel-colored silks

and becomes a God,

for a few hours.

Who is he ?

Is he a sculptor

who forgot his craft

Or  a teller of

tales steeped in blood

Is he the man you

saw drunk on the footpath

Or the son who goes hungry

to feed  his mother

He might be the student

who saw his teacher hacked to pieces

Or a dreamer lost in

thoughts of a better tomorrow

He might be anybody

He might be you

Or me.
