The Traveller

The sea

Was the tree’s constant companion

Bringing tales from far countries

Of poppy flowers and powdery snow,

streets of rhyme and hearts of stone

Of fevered whispers and ebony eyes

Filling his mind with longing

for something more than ships and storms

One day

the tree disappeared

they say it was uprooted by the wind.

The sea smiles on hearing this

He had escaped from the ties

that bound him to the earth

Now he roamed free

hand in hand with the sea.
